L egs braced, I stand and stare at Jessica’s name on the sign-up sheet posted on the residential advisor’s door. My fist tightens around the pen trapped in its grip until the plastic case threatens to snap.

How can I even think of staying here past what’s required? Why would I torture myself like that?

Oh, I know why.

I’m still standing in front of the sheet when I smell her light floral perfume. Fuck!

“ Do you know why I signed up to stay in the dorms an extra week?” she asks quietly in that melodic voice of hers.

It’s pretty. But not as pretty the guttural sounds I’ve heard her make. Damn it, there are all kinds of people coming and going in this hallway. No privacy. I shouldn’t look at her.

But I can’t help it. I turn to her. I’m wearing my usual uniform, tank top and jeans. Sweet mother! She’s wearing a sundress without a bra.

I swallow, refusing to answer her question.

She steps closer and pretends to study the form. “I’m staying because I’m hoping you will.”

“Why would I do that?” I reply angrily, my voice like gravel.

“So that we can spend a week in bed together with almost no one else around. So that I can eat your pussy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for a week.”

My head whips toward her. “What did you just say, sorority girl?”

“I want you, Lexie. I tasted you—and I liked it. No…not liked. I need more.”

I’m breathing like I just lifted weights.

“Just for a week. It will be our little secret. But not because you’re just a hot lay, baby. Because I can’t live without knowing what it’s like to love you. Be loved by you.”

I snap the pencil in half, its jagged halves pressing into my palm. “And you think I could let you go after that?” I growl.

Jessica gently extricates the broken mechanical pencil from my hand, smiling gently—but sadly. “You’ll have to. Because it’s the only way you’ll ever get me. But you’ll know that you’ve given me something that no one else ever will for the rest of my life. That I’ll love you forever.”

Rage fills me until I can’t see her, let alone the lines on the printed sheet.

“Please,” she begs in a whisper. “Sign up. Let me love you for a week. You don’t even have to touch me. I’ll spend the whole time with my mouth between your —”

“The hell you will! Fuck!” I take in a deep breath and march down the hall, belatedly realizing it’s the quarterback of the football team.

Brad.

I hold out my hand and he stares at it with disdain. “I need to borrow a pen.”

“Uh, okaaaay,” he draws out, fishing one out from his backpack and handing it to me.

Jessica watches the entire time I write my name in bold, block letters under her dainty cursive signature, and she waits while I return the damned pen to her ex-boyfriend.

“Thanks,” I say to him, passing it back to him without touching.
